Who ever would have thought I'd have the chance to toddle off
to Cardiff? Well, I am! – for a one-and-a-half day Singles Conference (known alternately as a convention here, for which difference, in terminology, I have never been able to figure out, as we all know the lame connotation the
word “convention” brings to mind?!), my second since I arrived in England.
Today I will ride the one-pound-ninety bus (I’ve
decided that in as much as buses do NOT give change, they have set the
anywhere-in-the-Birgminham-area fee to £1.90, with the expectation that they’ll
be making an extra 10p on nearly every rider. Small change adds up, you know!) to meet
Gillian in Solihull at 4:30p at the end of her work day -- AND week -- when we’ll whip on over to
Evesham (E-va-sh’m' ) to pick up Kerry and her friend, then finally off for the 2.5-hr jaunt to
Cardiff. More to come!
Unrelated bits:
[I was just looking on weather.com to find out what to expect from Cardiff’s weather for the next couple days. Came across a video story entitled, “Vegas Parking Lot Wake Boarding.” Check it out – it’s current. Pretty amazing!!]
[Have to add something here about washing my
hair in England – what’s to comment on that, you think . . . (In case you weren’t
aware, I’m a sink washer – my hair’s too long to let it hang down across my
back in the shower, with nasty prickling all the while. Yuck!) Anyway, I am
grateful that they finally have a tap system where you have a separate handle
for either hot or cold (they didn’t have it for the longest time, in fact, many
still don’t). But the thing is . . . they
still don’t GET it! Even though they’ve made this great improvement and all,
there’s still a slight problem – while from the one side of the faucet you are
getting scalded, on the other half it comes out freezing. And I’m not kidding!]
