DAY HUNDRED NINETY NINE - the universal language of children

A couple days ago I discovered that M & S was selling ‘day-old’ bunches of daffodils for 50p. I held up one and then thought, ‘what the heck!’ why not another, at that price? And then thought, ‘what the heck?’ again and came home with three! (I have now learned that the drying of the tips of daffodils is no problem – they will still blossom out just as they are supposed to do!) Was showing them to Chloe  - in fact gave her several for her own – and asked her what color in the rainbow they were.’Lello!’ came back the reply. I love that NO matter what English speaking country a child is raised in, somewhere between the ages of three and four, chances are that they're going to say, ‘lello!’

[I will say again that it is interesting to me that here it is mid-January and already there are spring flowers in the stores – first tulips, and now daffodils. Don’t know if that’s usual or not – not usual to me, anyway. Could be, as the UK is basically Europe, equatorial things are more readily available to us or something – from Africa, Indonesia, etc. But whatever it is – it’s nice!]
